The list of shipwrecks in 1928 includes all ships sunk, foundered, grounded, or otherwise lost during 1928.

January

12 January

• Cargo ship Roi Leopold ( Belgium): Wrecked off Cape São Thome.^[1]

February

9 February

• Schooner Santa Colomba ( Italy): Foundered in a storm off Ischia. All eight crew rescued by Koningin Elisabeth ( Belgium).^[2]

March

• Gull Lightvessel ( United Kingdom): Rammed and sunk by Ellerman Lines liner SS City of York. Raised in July 1929, repaired and entered service as the Brake Lightvessel.^[3]

• Panormos ( Hellenic Navy): Sank off Cape Tourlos, Aegina.

April

23 April

• Comte de Flandre ( Belgium): Ran aground at Caprera, Italy, refloated but then sank.^[4]

May

30 May

• Vadala ( United Kingdom): Sank after a collision with Hwachan ( Republic of China) off Tsingtao, China.

June

23 June

• Plas Dinam ( United Kingdom) Wrecked at Freshwater Point, Australia.^[1]

October

19 October

• Professor B Jitkov ( Soviet Union): Abandoned in pack ice off Dikson Island, Arctic Ocean.^[1]

Unknown date

• Schooner S F Pearce ( United Kingdom): spent a few hours under Trewavas Head, Mount's Bay, UK in a southerly gale. The crew managed to get the engine going and clear of the rocks^[5]

November

12 November

• Vestris ( United Kingdom): Developed a severe starboard list, was abandoned and sank approximately 200 miles off Hampton Roads, Virginia, USA. Estimates of the dead vary from between 110-127.

16 November

• Kentish Coast ( United Kingdom): Ran aground at Jennycliffe Bay, Plymouth Sound. Refloated in December 1928 and sold for scrap.^[2]

25 November

• Cesaree ( France): Foundered off Cape Caxine, Algeria.^[1]

December

10 December

• Celtic ( United Kingdom): Ran aground on the Pollock Rock, off Cobh, Republic of Ireland. Declared a total loss and scrapped on site in 1933.

16 December

• Delfina ( Spain): Struck a rock off The Skerries, Northern Ireland and abandoned. Sank the next day.^[6]

Unknown date

• København ( Denmark): The barque departed Buenos Aires, Argentina in December bound for Australia but never arrived.
